Rencester Spring Faire, April 8th, 2000College of Rencester, Williamsburg, VA Spring is in the air, and the faire has arrived! The College of Rencester invites all to partake in a day of festivities and feasting.
Activities: We students shudder to hear of the wars raging around us, for our fair, peaceful institution of learning finds herself woefully unprepared to defend herself against the outside world. Therefore, there will be both a heavy and rapier tournament to determine who shall be the fighting champion of Rencester. There will be an open A+S display upon the theme: "Faire Game - Things that might be bought and sold at a medieval fair." For all interested there shall be a games tournament, and a contest of wit and words. Informal dancing shall take place during the afternoon, and there shall be some children's activities throughout the day. We must stress that this is not babysitting, and parents are asked to help out with activities for a while if their children are participating. If you have questions see below. Feast: A delicious feast will be prepared by Lord Patrick O'Neill of Cork. For those with dietary concerns, a complete list of recipes and ingredients used therein will be provided at the site. We regret that special orders are not possible, but there will be plenty of good food for everyone. Fees: The charge will be $8 on-board, $3 off-board. Children aged 6-12 years are $4 on-board, and children 5 and under are guests of the college. Reservations must be made for feast, and the only reservation is a paid reservation! Reservations must be paid by March 30th. Please make checks out to The College of Rencester / SCA Inc. The hours of operation of the Rencester Spring Faire Children's Corner will be 10AM - 5PM Saturday April 8th. You are welcome to bring your child for a maximum duration of two hours unless other arrangements have been made in advance. It is requested that parents make a donation of supplies or contribute volunteer hours to the Children's Corner. (We remind parents that the Children's Corner is not a baby-sitting service and is provided as a courtesy to event participants.) Children must be over the age of three (younger children may be accompanied by siblings of age five or older), potty trained, and wear a nametags provided by the Corner with their name and the parent's mundane name. Drinks and snacks may be provided. Participants must be signed in by a parent showing at least one form of legal id, (driver's license or social security card) and should be picked up no later than 5:00 PM. Children should be attired in simple garb and wear no garb that would impair their movement. All personal belongings not associated with a game are asked to be left with an adult. We are sorry but we can not be held responsible for lost belongings. Parents must make sure that they understand that while they are under the care of the Children's Corner Steward, that they must listen to the steward, and failure to do so will result in a revocation of the privilege and grounds for possible discipline from the parent. Planned Activities:
Planned activities include board and card games as well as Rounders. Children are asked to bring their marbles also. Stencils and markers will be provided for children who wish to make their own crests. Insructions and games will be posted soon. The site includes an outdoor field of sorts separated by brick walk ways. Please dress children according to the weather. There is also a possibility of a scavenger hunt provided we have enough volunteers to help. As you can see we are currently in the planning stages. Donations and Volunteers:
Attached will be a list of materials that we can not provide ourselves due to budget restrictions. Loans for the day would be much appreciated. Our volunteer needs encompass the following: At least one shift workers that will be able to man the corner from 12PM - 1PM so that the Steward might be able to garb a quick bite to eat. Also a scavenger hunt coordinator will be needed so the corner may be manned during that time. |
