MEETING MINUTES
Below you will find meeting notes for each of the meetings for the College of Rencester. This page will be updated when the notes go on the Rencester listerv and are provided for those not on the listserv. The uppermost notes are more recent.
Old Minutes: Spring 2003.
Monday December 1st, 2003
Monday's Rencester meeting went well; we've now got
some more loaner fencing clothes and are well on our
way to completing still more at a later date.
Caroling! Meet up on Tuesday the 9th at 3 pm at
the front steps of Tucker (outside) in garb (warm
garb!) with lanterns or flashlights. We'll hit
merchant's square, campus, and goodness knows what
else...
Party! Next week (the 8th) is our unofficial
end-of-year party. 7 pm, Tucker 2nd floor as usual!
Everyone is invited, from Rencester, the Barony, or
really anyone else who's interested in coming. Bring
something to share (not necessarily what you signed up
for really--we won't mind if you said you'd bring chips
and instead you bring popcorn or caviar or whatever)
and bring videos (or DVDs and a DVD player with
cables). If anyone feels like buying or renting
Pirates of the Carib between now and then popular
consensus says we'd love that... but otherwise we'll
just vote on whatever's there.
The 15th, Monday, will be an
unofficial Bardic at 7 as we usually have at the end of
the semester. Unofficial 'cos we can't reserve the
room during exams--but if anyone's there we'll just go
somewhere else.
Fighters' Practice: this Sunday it'll be in
Trinkle, same as usual (although some of the
Rencesterites have classes at that point due to
uber-long-week). After next Sunday, through exams and
winter break Sunday fighters' practice will be at MRS.
SNOWE'S HOUSE, where the Wednesday practice is. If
Rencester folks need carpools, the rencester list will
be a good place to start (email me if you don't get any
help after a couple days and I'll find you something).
Monday November 17th, 2003
Next two Mondays are Rencester work evenings; we'll be working on
our loaner fencing gear. Anyone who can donate a few yards of trigger
(between two and four or a bit more is ideal) *please* email me ASAP; I
need to know how much of Rencester's funds to get an OK to spend later
the week if we don't get enough via donations. Also, *please* bring
sewing machines, scissors, thread, etc!
Any of the Rencesterites needing rides to Marinus' Investiture or
crash space for Pilgrim's Progress, please email the list.
December 8 (Monday) will be an "unofficial" end-of-semester party;
same time and place as a normal meeting. Some people have already
volunteered to bring things; we'll go over that again later.
Tuesday December 9 we will do caroling in garb. Meet at Tucker
(front steps) at 3 pm; we'll start by singing in Merchant's Square.
Watch for an email regarding potential dance get-togethers at
Tidewater Tech (I believe) on Saturdays--hopefully this will get up and
running, there seemed to be interest for it!
And remember, Sunday fighter's practice is in Trinkle Hall now.
Monday November 10th, 2003
Any Rencesterites who will be around for Pilgrim's Progress (11/29)
and would like to help out are encouraged to contact Audrey at
orianaofxylina@hotmail.com; she still wants people to sit troll both in
the morning and early afternoon and wants servers for feast. If you'd
like to come back and need crash space, please email the Rencester list.
Anyone going to Marinus' Investiture on the 22nd who needs a ride,
please email the Rencester list ASAP and we'll work on arranging
something.
Caroling this year will be on Tuesday, the 9th of December, starting
at 3 p.m. We'll meet out front of Tucker, in garb, and carol in
Merchant's Square and around campus, for a start.
I'd remind everyone that next Monday will be a Bardic, and the Monday
after will be our first Rencester workday on some new fencing loaner
gear. Soon I'll be sending out information on how much cloth we'll need
for tunics and headwear, so any of the Rencester folks who can donate a
couple yards of trigger know what's going into this. Again, the aim
here is to make utilitarian and versatile stuff to loan out so people
can try fencing. If you're looking for resources to make your own (more
fitted and nice-looking) gear and don't know where to look, email me and
I'll point you at some people who are great resources!
Monday November 3rd, 2003
Rencester's Celebration of Spring has changed its
date again (b/c of the scheduling office) back to March
20th. Consider this a final date (I hope!).
Rencester has been gifted with a blue canvas 9x18
tent (and a thank-you card was passed around at the
meeting to sign); anyone who would like to volunteer to
help put it up this Saturday, please contact Sebastian
at thedarksquire@hotmail.com (this will be happening
after/along with the workday mentioned in 4).
Pilgrim's Progress is a local event coming up on
November 29th. Rencesterites who will be in the area
rather than home for Thanksgiving are encouraged to
attend!
Some announcements from our Baronial Seneschal:
Thanks to everyone who helped out at the event, in
particular with kitchen duty, setup and takedown, etc.
Additionally, there will be a second workday this
Saturday to make some money for Rencester. If you can
come (estimated start time of 10 a.m.) email
Jean-Claude at seneschal@tirydon.org.
Rencesterites are reminded that the Baronial
listserv, the Campfire, is a great resource for keeping
up-to-date on what's happening in the Barony. Anyone
who wants to can sign up at http://www.tirydon.org/campfire/.
Megan says thanks to everyone who worked at Troll at
Crown!
- Rencester's Schedule for November and December:
November
3. Business/Bardic
10. A&S: Persona development and heraldry (possibly
taught by Mistress Lucrezia, otherwise as a forum
discussion)
17. Bardic
24. Fencing gear part I (Holly and Megan Poppe are
coordinating the steps and materials for fencing hoods
and basic tunics, respectively; stay tuned for requests
for materials.) Bring sewing machines and/or supplies!
December
1. Fencing gear work part II. (Note: this will be
*basic,* un-pretty gear to use as Rencester loaner
gear.)
8. Unofficial end-of-semester party; there will be
discussion later on what to bring and what "theme" of a
party it will be, if any.
Monday October 27th, 2003
Erin, who keeps the email list, reminds everyone to allow turn around
time of at least a day--it won't always take that long but sometimes it may.
Crown reservations are now past the pre-reg date. However, register
ASAP if you want to sit feast! Spaces are limited. (Register with
Megan Poppe; the only reservation is a paid reservation.)
sean will be giving rides to Crown from Ewell Circle at 7:30 a.m.
Saturday. You *must* email him in advance if you want a ride!
(sean@iollan.com)
If you volunteered to sit Troll (yay) and you can't be there when
the schedule says you should, tell Megan Poppe (cs_foxglove@yahoo.com)
ASAP. Otherwise, be sure to be there when you said you would!
Monday October 20th, 2003
Rencester's event will be March *27* instead of the 20th (as
previously announced).
Marc reports that he will need to order epee blades for our two
practice swords, and approximately $100 was approved for this purpose.
Next week there will be a sign-up list for volunteers to help man
the concession stand at Crown Tourney; if Rencesterites who are going
could consider their schedules and have in mind some hours they can help
it'd be a good thing!
Pre-register for Crown with Megan Poppe by the 27th of October!
That's soon!
Additionally, Megan is looking for people to sit troll (sign-in) at
Crown; contact her if you need to change the hours you signed up for or
if you would like to volunteer some time: cs_foxglove@yahoo.com.
A bit late now, but if you want a ride to the Halloween party this
Friday, contact sean by the end of *today* and ask him if he still has
space available to take you!
Monday October 13th, 2003
As well as finishing our screening of In Service To The
Dream, Rencester discussed further our March
Celebration of Spring. It looks like we will have Marc
as autocrat, with Carrie as deputy or co-autocrat.
Victoria volunteered to head feast; I'm sure in the
coming months all these folks will be asking for
volunteers to fill other positions as well.
Vern has volunteered to coordinate our concession stand at
Crown, both in terms of talking with the autocrat and
in terms of arranging shifts of Rencesterite
volunteers, etc. Many thanks to all these folks for
volunteering!
Additionally, it looks quite likely that Rencester will
be allocating around $90-100 to help cover replacement
blades for loaner fencing gear. As soon as we have
information on whether the blades will be merchanted at
nearby events soon (instead of being bought and
shipped) we will make a final decision about this; if
you have any input about the issue, please make sure to
attend next Monday's meeting.
Megan Poppe has announced once more that she is
collecting reservations for Crown; pre-reg deadline is
October 27th (that's soon!).
sean has offered to give rides to Rencesterites who are
thinking of attending the Halloween party and don't
have their own transportation; if you need a ride,
please contact him in advance (sean@iollan.com)
Monday October 6th, 2003
-
Rencester's schedule for October is as follows:
Monday Meetings:
6th: Business (been there done that!)
13th: Finishing screening of In Service To The Dream
(begun after business meeting on the 6th)
20th: Bardic!
27th: Dance
Sundays:
Fighter practice from 12:30 until 3 (if it's moved into
Trinkle Hall instead of at Barksdale due to inclement
weather, practice must end by 2:30ish)
Additionally, Lachlann is beginning dance in Trinkle
hall either concurrent with fighter practice (while
practice remains in Barksdale) or possibly before if
fighting moves indoors.
Rencester will try to have our Spring event on
March 20th, as is appropriate for our Celebration of
Spring.
Marc has let us know that Rencester may need to
consider allocating funds to replace blades on our
loaner fencing gear--more word next week.
If anyone from Rencester is planning on going to
Kingdom Crusades in northern Maryland this weekend and
needs a ride, please message the list as soon as
possible! (rencester-l@wm.edu)
If anyone from Rencester would like to volunteer to
coordinate setting up a merchant booth to sell
refreshments at Crown or would like to volunteer to
coordinate a silent auction at Crown, please let me
know. You would not need to be in your booth all day
(you'd need to coordinate supplies and a schedule of
volunteers but you could take, say, a couple of hours
off yourself to fight) but you'd need to do
organizational work beforehand.
Many thanks to those people who could go with
Jean-Claude to work for Rencester this past weekend.
There may be a similar opportunity this weekend; if so,
Jean-Claude will send an email (although again, I
realize many people may will be up at Crusades). Also,
many thanks to J.C. for your help in putting this
together and to Gunther, whose property it is and who
compensated us for the work so splendidly!
Megan Poppe is taking reservations for Crown. Get
'em in by October 27 if you want the pre-reg discount!
As always, please reference tirydon.atlantia.sca.org
for schedules of newcomers' meetings, baronial A&S
meetings, etc, and rencester.atlantia.sca.org for
Rencester resources.
Monday September 15th, 2003
Megan Poppe is taking reservations for Fall Crown;
get your reservations to her by October 27 or the price
will go up!
As mentioned before, Rencester's shed has been
destroyed. I'm looking for a Rencesterite to volunteer as a fundraiser coordinater--perhaps to try
and see if we can have a car wash at one of the gas stations on Richmond Road, and/or see about
getting us a booth to sell refreshments (baked goods, coffee, etc) at Crown. Also, if anyone has
other fundraising ideas, they're more than welcome. If you'd like to volunteer, let me know!
Thanks again in particular to Lady Isobel for the lecture, and to everyone
else who was there and contributed to the discussion afterwards.
Anyone from Rencester who would like to attend this Wednesday's
Baronial Business Meeting but doesn't have a ride, please email the rencester list.
Monday September 15th, 2003
Monday night was a wonderful bardic, with singing and
stories and dancing (and chocolate...). So glad to see
all of you who could make it! There was also, of
course, Business.
sean is putting together a contact info list for
the web. He must have it *in writing* to be legal.
So, if you didn't yet give him contact information,
catch him at the next meeting.
Erin has a new deputy exchequer (thank you
Victoria!). And there was much rejoicing. Erin is
also going to put forth an opinion soon to the populace
about switching banks; if any members of the populace
have input about which banks are good (within walking
distance of campus) feel free to email her at
eheppe@wm.edu.
It's been pointed out that September 19 is National
"Talk Like a Pirate" day. We encourage this, *not
officially* but just because it sounds like fun. You
could dress up like a pirate too....
Come to Fighters' Practice on Sunday! If the
weather affects this we'll let you know. There may
also be an update about next Monday's meeting asking
anyone who can bring a sewing machine to do so because
a number of people are still sewing and would like to
use one.... keep your eyes on your inbox and there
shall be updates.
Megan Poppe is taking reservations for Crown
Tourney. It's a good thing, folks.
Monday September 8th, 2003
Erin is teaching a Baronial A&S class this Thursday at 7 p.m. at
Llwyd and Kaleeb's house on period music. If you'd like to go and need
a ride, email sean at sean@iollan.com.
If you'd like to be in the most current baronial directory, email
Oriana (Audrey) at oriana@baroness.sca.org
. You can include as much or as little info as you want. If you're an officer, please let her
know this information ASAP so she can make sure she has the most complete and current contact for
you.
Our barional chatelaines repeat that they encourage you to come to
newcomers' meetings in the Barony! Go to
http://tirydon.atlantia.sca.org to see the schedule.
Next week will be a Bardic, per our schedule. However, if you have
handsewing to do, feel free to bring it to work on or get advice on. If
you have questions about a garment you started on Monday, email Megan G
at mpgall@wm.edu (as MoAS she can help you or put you in contact with
people) or email the list asking for help!
Megan Poppe is taking reservations for the Crown Tourney. Get 'em
as soon as you know if you're coming!
There was interest in watching In Service To The Dream over a couple
of meetings in October; we'll work on scheduling it at the October
business meeting.
Hope to see everyone at Fighters' practice on Sunday and the meeting
Monday; in the interim, if you're looking to go to Marinus' Baronial
Birthday this weekend and don't have a ride, email the list and we'll
see about putting you in touch with someone.
Monday September 1st, 2003
Before I recap yesterday's meeting, I'd just like to
welcome once again all the new students who came by to

15th: Bardic, same time and place as last Monday's mtg

5 to 10 dollars to give to me--I'll bring some fabric,
probably unbleached muslin and a few other plainish

thread, scissors, and/or sewing machines!
